On 11 February, 2016 the first in Kazakhstan hypermarket of the famous French brand was opened in Almaty. Retail chain Carrefour is the second largest retailer in the world. In Kazakhstan Carrefour was represented by the Emirati developer Majid Al Futtaim Holding, which is currently an owner of the franchise for opening the chain's stores.
According to Stephane Maurier, general manager of Carrefour Kazakhstan, it is planned to open 4 more hypermarkets of the same size in Almaty (or perhaps even more), 3 in Astana, and 10-12 supermarkets of a smaller size in the southern capital.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participated in the official opening ceremony. One of the top-priority focal points of the President's policy is to enter the global market. That is why the gloabal retailer's opening is a significant event for Kazakhstan!
Negotiations with Carrefour were rather extended (lasted for approximately 10 months) and difficult. Taking into account awareness of the retail chain in the global market, its representatives laid down truly enslaving terms of cooperation. Yet thanks to joint efforts of UPECO staff and members of a distributor «Prima Distribution» the contract was concluded on beneficial terms! As a result of negotiations the assortment of all categories represented by UPECO got into the chain. We are sure that this contract will allow to significantly increase the sales volume compared to the year 2015 and UPECO products will become available to even larger number of customers.
