How to Defend Yourself and Your Nearest and Dearest from Ticks

Four days off are ahead, and many of us will go with our families to the country to make shashlics, or will simply go for a walk in the forest or in the park. Dangerous ticks which became active in Russia as a result of a warm spell in April 2012 may prevent people to enjoy themselves in such a way.

As “The Russian newspaper” (“Rossiyskaya gazeta”) of May, 5, 2012, reports, “ in near Moscow administration of Rospotrebnadzor (The Federal Service of Consumers Rights’ Protection Supervision) 129 people (39 of them children) saw a doctor, whereas in 2011 only four people took medical advice in connection with ticks’ bites. Over the last year 17 186 cases of ticks’ suction were registered, 1,7 times more than last year. These data demonstrate than the quantity of people, who became victims of ticks’ bites, rose, first of all among those who spent time in forest-parks, garden associations, public gardens, parks and at children’s playgrounds.

What should one do so that the constant threat did not overshadow your rest in the country?

  •  Going to the park or any territory where ticks occur you should dress in such a way as to prevent creeping of ticks under your clothes.
  •  Upon returning from a walk in the forest you should fully examine your body and clothes.
